If you live on the south side of Chicago, there is a good chance that either you live in a bungalow, have a relative who lives in a bungalow OR there is at least one on your block. Did you know that Chicago bungalows are considered historic?
I lived most of my childhood in a brick bungalow in Auburn Gresham. I never realized that the stain glassed windows in our living and dining room were as valuable as they were. I never knew the value of those huge concrete planters that sat on the rail of the front stairs. Chances are you didn’t know either.
I happened upon an organization a few years ago, the Chicago Bungalow Association. Thanks to them, I have since learned the value of my childhood home AND some great perks financial that the association offers help owners maintain the historical state of their bungalow.
If you live in a bungalow or are looking for a house and would like a bungalow, I strongly suggest attending “The Story of Your House”, a workshop hosted by the Bungalow Association. The workshop is designed to help you understand the history of your home and the development of your community. It will be at Avalon Public Library, 8118 S. Stony Island Ave. Monday May 9th ,from 6:00pm – 7:45pm. This will give you a whole new outlook on your home.
You never know. You maybe living in a historic landmark or in a community that has historical significance to Chicago.
